I am retired now but I have previously worked as a nurse, an administrator for my husband’s business, a registered childminder and latterly as a Childcare Development Worker for the local authority, supporting childminders and out of school clubs to deliver the best service possible. I consider my experiences to be quite wide ranging.
I am a parent carer of an adult son who has had a learning disability from birth and is also autistic, which was formally diagnosed 5 years ago. I also have a husband, an adult daughter and a grandson.
Our son lives in a supported household with 3 other tenants and has done since 2010. This was his choice and on the whole it works well.
My experience has been fighting for him his whole life to get the education he needed and the ongoing care he needs. It should not be a fight but unfortunately it has been and still is.
I regularly attend different forums around learning disability and autism and am a passionate believer in the rights of learning disabled and autistic people.
I became a Trustee for Link-Ability, following time as Chairman of West Lancs Positive Living, and after the amalgamation of WLPL into Link-Ability.
Committed to providing the very best care or personal support required in order to meet the needs of people using its services. Call us today, we have offices through out the North West
