Julie's Story about going to the Library
Hello, my name is Julie and I am one of the people that Link-Ability support in Rochdale.
A few months ago I was having trouble getting to sleep and one of the Link-Ability staff suggested that listening to a story while I was trying to go to sleep might help.
With the help of Robert, one of the students on placement with Link-Ability, I went to Heywood library and renewed my library card and learnt how to take out talking books. I enjoyed listening to the books and they did help me get to sleep.
Heywood library is only small and it wasn't very long before I had listened to all the talking books that they had, so they suggested that I go to the main library in Rochdale as they had many more books for me to choose from there.
The first time we went to Rochdale library I had a very bad experience. The man at the desk wouldn't look at me or talk to me. I hate it when people do that to me I think that it is very rude as I can answer questions for myself.
The next time I went to the library it was much better. The lady at the desk asked me what kind of books I liked to listen to and she was very nice to me. Since then I have been catching the bus and going to the library on my own and the people there are always friendly and say hello to me.
I am very pleased that I now have something else that I can do by myself.
