On 21st January 2021, it was World Hug Day. Hugs make people feel a range of emotions, such as the feeling of safety, love, happiness and warmth. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the rules of social distancing, people haven’t been able to hug and have had limited or no contact with loved ones.
Link-Ability West Lancashire needed to do some work, and thinking outside the box we came up with the idea of sending a virtual hug, which was a design of a hugging couple drawn on our finger’s with a small dedicated message. We asked our lovely ladies and gentlemen to participate, and send us their photos. They were all more than happy to get involved and have some fun.
Link-Ability wanted to share this with the local community; so we asked our local residential care home Abbey Wood Lodge if we could donate our hugs and love to all their elderly residents. They were delighted to bring our communities together, and with the help of Laura and Jayne from Abbey Wood Lodge, the hugs and messages were delivered.
The elderly residents were overjoyed with the virtual hugs and smiles they had received.
